The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
