An extensive two-month voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the ship staff became aware the passenger was not present.

A major hunt found her remains the following day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any further travelers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The vessel initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the possibility of trekking or underwater exploration.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my parent".
