Nearly 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, producing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Locals observed giant hailstones as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations received 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple rescue reports
• Wyndham - nearly 180 help reports

At one point on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
